Our client is a well-established and reputed manufacturing organization in Sri Lanka operating a large-scale production facility in Biyagama. The company maintains structured procurement systems and strong operational standards to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing performance.

This role is critical in ensuring material availability, cost efficiency, and supplier performance excellence.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Manager – Procurement will lead and manage the complete procurement operations of the factory, covering:

  • Raw Materials for production
  • Engineering Spares for maintenance
  • Plant and Administrative supplies

The role ensures continuous material flow to support production, cost optimization initiatives, and strong supplier governance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PROCUREMENT OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

  • Manage the end-to-end procurement cycle across all material categories
  • Ensure timely processing and tracking of purchase orders
  • Monitor supplier deliveries and provide accurate material arrival timelines
  • Maintain uninterrupted supply to support production schedules

RAW MATERIAL & STRATEGIC SOURCING

  • Lead raw material sourcing initiatives for manufacturing operations
  • Manage overseas vendor negotiations and international procurement
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through supplier consolidation and process improvements
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery reliability, and responsiveness

SUPPLIER & VENDOR MANAGEMENT

  • Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and service level agreements
  • Implement structured supplier performance monitoring systems

CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COORDINATION

  • Work closely with Demand Planning for raw material forecasting
  • Coordinate with Maintenance for engineering spares procurement
  • Liaise with Administration and Facilities for plant-related purchases
  • Collaborate with Finance for budgeting and payment processes

SYSTEMS & PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

  • Ensure effective utilization of SAP for procurement transactions and reporting
  • Improve procurement documentation, controls, and governance practices
  • Drive process efficiencies and compliance with company policies

TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • Lead and mentor procurement team members
  • Develop category expertise within the team
  • Encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing
Pre Requisites

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 6 – 8 or more years of procurement experience within the Manufacturing sector (Any production manufacturing experience is welcome)
  • Strong hands-on experience in raw material sourcing
  • Experience dealing with overseas suppliers and international procurement
  • Exposure to engineering spares and plant procurement is advantageous
  • Experience working in structured reporting environments

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management / Procurement / Business Administration or related field (Mandatory)
  • ISMM qualification will be an added advantage

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Strong working knowledge of SAP (Mandatory)
  • Good understanding of procurement cycles and supplier evaluation
  • Strong commercial and negotiation skills
